Buoyancy Aids must be tested annually, and results recorded.
Other club equipment should be inspected annually.
Club members should report any defects noted on club equipment; do not rely on someone else to spot or report an issue.
Buoyancy Aids
Tested in large plastic tank filled with water, then add weights above BA to point where floating is questionable. Therefore negligible water displacement by the weights, and calculations as to weight density (and thus displacement) isn’t needed. Pass criteria: rated lift (manufacturer’s label, if not clear assume 50N) plus 1kg (approx 120% of rated), in most cases the recorded result is rated plus 1.5kg (130%).
Visually inspect seams, zips (if any), buckles, adjusters. If in doubt about condition, downgrade to pool-use only, or dispose.
